This course is designed for the new shooter, or someone curious about pistols. Our goals with this class are to teach you the fundamentals of pistol shooting, and to get you comfortable handling and shooting a pistol. We’ll start in the classroom, and progress to a live-fire exercise.
Classroom Component
Students will meet in the classroom and learn about:
- Safe firearm handling
- Types of pistols and their operation
- Ammunition
- The fundamentals of pistol shooting
- The process for purchasing firearms in Kansas and Missouri
- Safe storage of firearms
Live Fire Component
After learning to safely handle pistols and how to shoot them, students will have the opportunity to shoot at the range. Instructors will provide basic coaching, but as this is an introductory course, they will be focused on safe firearm handling- not providing private shooting lessons.

Required Equipment
- Range-appropriate clothing: Shoes must be closed-toe, and shirts must not be low-cut
- Students are welcome to bring their own pistols and ammunition, however there will be instructor-provided pistols and ammunition for the class

We offer this class in one of two formats:
- With conventional classroom instruction and range time: $35
- Teaching and shooting at an outdoor range: Free through Operation Blazing Sword
