Advanced Concealed Carry

The permitting process is the absolute minimum for your state to decide you are capable of carrying a concealed firearm in public. It does not make you competent. Carrying in public requires you to be proficient in the art of carrying a pistol, avoiding conflict, use of force decisions, and shooting in a dynamic setting. The goal of this course is to build those skills and work to make you an asset to society, not a liability.

Classroom Component

A discussion-based classroom session focused on how to carry better. We’ll dive into:

  • Legal Rules of Engagement vs. your personal moral Rules of Engagement
  • In-depth situational awareness
  • Deescalation techniques
  • The armed citizen mentality
  • How to conceal better, considerations on carry methods, the sliding scale of carryability to usability
  • Non-firearm defensive options
  • Discussion on trauma care*

This session is less structured than other courses, and more openly collaborative. Everyone in the room is licensed to carry, there’s a good chance we can all learn something from each other. *This is not a Stop the Bleed course, nor will we provide medical training in this course. We will discuss the importance of being able to triage gunshot wounds as an armed member of society.

Role Playing Component

Students will be armed with an airsoft training pistol and individually put through a variety of scenarios based on real-world defensive gun use cases. Instructors will play the role of potential aggressors, and students will be required to interact to the situation they find themselves in. Students will practice situational awareness, utilize deescalation and avoidance techniques, determine if or when use of force is justified, and engage when justified. Scenarios will include:

  • No-shoot
  • justifiable shoot
  • No-shoot that may escalate into justifiable shoot
  • Justifiable shoot that may be deescalated into no-shoot
  • Legally justifiable shoot, but morally complex
  • No-win with no clear correct action
  • Public shooter

Once the scenarios are complete, the class will debrief and discuss each student’s decisions and performance, allowing us to learn from each other’s good calls and mistakes.

Live Fire Component

The live fire component will focus on improving your skillset as a concealed carry shooter. Carry guns are rarely full size duty pistols, and so require specific time and attention training with to become competent in their use.

  • Drawing from a concealed holster
  • Maintaining safe weapon handling practices in a dynamic environment
  • Improving accuracy with your carry gun
  • Improving speed with your carry gun
  • Shooting from non-ideal positions
  • Moving to cover or concealment while shooting
